Metro’s bravest police to be honored at Awards for Valor on Friday

Some of the bravest law enforcement officers in the metropolitan area will be honored for their courage at the 45th Annual Awards for Valor luncheon on Friday.

The event begins at noon in the Grand Ballroom of the Argosy Casino in Riverside, Mo. Awards will be presented at 12:45 p.m. The media are invited to attend.

Dozens of officers from Oak Grove, Mo., to Merriam, Kan., will be recognized for acts of heroism including saving lives, rescuing people from burning cars and buildings, breaking up deadly drug-trafficking rings, and apprehending murderers while being fired upon. Fallen Kansas City Kansas Police Department members Detective Brad Lancaster and Captain Robert Melton will receive special recognition, as will the officers who assisted them and helped apprehend their attackers.

The event is sponsored by the Metropolitan Chiefs and Sheriffs Association, Greater Kansas City Public Safety Credit Union and the City of Riverside.
