The Kansas City Missouri Police Department launched its official Instagram social media account today.

The account, @kcmopolice, will feature photos of department members at work in the community. KCPD also will share other users’ photos and encourage Kansas City residents to take a #selfiewithaKCcop, if the officer says it’s OK.

KCPD already has a substantial social media following on Twitter with more than 115,000 followers, and Facebook with nearly 49,000 likes. The department aims to interact with community members where they are, and online, Instagram has more active monthly users than any social media platform besides Facebook, according to Adweek.

The members of KCPD look forward to sharing a new view of their work with the people of Kansas City and the world through Instagram.
