The very first responders are 911 call-takers and dispatchers, and they are a vital part of operations at the Kansas City Missouri Police Department. In 2018, they fielded 963,736 total calls.

April 14-20, 2019, is National Public Safety Telecommunicator Appreciation Week, which is when KCPD wants to specifically draw attention to the work of the approximately 105 members of the Communications Unit. They are serving every hour of every day and talk to people at the most stressful times of their lives.

KCPD continues to hire 911 call-takers. The department is looking for candidates who have excellent judgment and are skilled at multi-tasking. If you're interested, check out the job description.
