Target Oriented Policing Squad (TOPS)

The "Target Oriented Policing Squad" (TOPS) is comprised of a Supervisor and six officers.  This unit has the ability to direct all of their attention to a developing crime pattern, or to a problem area or individual.  The TOPS unit will work a variety of hours, and often change their method of operation and patrol tactics to fit the environment. TOPS officers are frequently utilized as a supporting element to the department’s patrol officers and specialized units and have also received extensive training in surveillance and basic patrol functions.  Officers in TOPS utilize high visibility patrol, plain clothes, decoy operations, surveillance and other techniques to quickly bring problems to a successful conclusion.
