History:
The Blue Hills Community Action
Network Center has been serving the Blue Hills Neighborhood for nearly
ten years. The Blue Hills CAN Center was started when area residents recognized
increased criminal activity in the area. The neighborhood applied for the
Community Action Officers to be placed in their neighborhood. Officers assigned
to the CAN center took an old policing philosophy, the traditional "beat"
officer, and combined that with a newer policing strategy called "Community
Oriented Policing". Through outside entities the quality of living has increased
within the Blue Hills Neighborhood.
Today the Blue Hills CAN center operates from an office inside St. Theresa
Catholic Church located at 5814 Euclid in the heart of the Blue Hills
Neighborhood. The CAN Center coordinates monthly drug marches, cleanups, used
tire pick-ups, and other activities that build neighborhood unity.
Mission Statement: The Blue Hills Community Action Network will increase
community pride by uniting the community around a clean, crime free neighborhood
where people want to live.
