Community Interaction Officers
To protect and serve the community has been and continues to- be the emphasis of all police departments. The Kansas City Missouri Police Department serves the community not only by traditional policing methods, but has Community Interaction Officers to aid in community relations and problem solving.

The community interaction officer is a resource for you to utilize.  The community interaction officer frequently attends community meetings representing the police department, and answers questions to many types of problems.  In addition, the community interaction officer is trained in crime prevention through the International Society of Crime Prevention Practitioners.  Crime prevention presentations, surveys, and speaking engagements are just some of the ways to spread the word that prevention is half of the solution to eliminating crime.

Mobile Community Outreach Police Station - MCOPS

M.C.O.P.S. is the acronym for Mobile Community Outreach Police Station.  This acronym refers to a huge motor home that was awarded to the Kansas City Missouri Police Station through the Department of Justice, Weed and Seed Grant.  The motor home is a tool that is utilized to assist a neighborhood in problem solving.  Typically, problems are “weeded” out and families can then “seed” the neighborhood by moving families into available housing, improvements to existing homes, youth activities, etc.

This motor home has proven itself in numerous neighborhoods.  Recently, the Santa Fe Neighborhood had several incidents that warranted the usage of this vehicle.  The vehicle was deployed at which time a concentration of city services, police related activities, and neighborhood participation took place.  This activity resulted in the identification of a suspect of one of the incidents, the criminal element leaving the area and an increase in the participation of the neighborhood group.

Division Resources: A crucial support element for patrol officers is that of the K-9 handler.  Available to officers is the ability to have a K-9 assist in locating an object, detecting narcotics or explosives, or searching an area for a person that has eluded the police.  These Officers and their K-9 partner are invaluable to police operations
