LIFE INSURANCE & OTHER DEATH BENEFITS

Who Qualifies for Membership... Membership in the Police Benefits Association  (PBA) is FREE and OPEN to all employees of the Kansas City Missouri Police Department. Police officers may join upon graduation from the Police Academy; civilian workers may join after six months on the job.

Complete the simple membership form available from the PBA office. For more information contact Carol Wait, PBA business manager at (816) 482-8137.

Every PBA member is automatically covered by a generous Life insurance policy. This death benefit continues into retirement as long as the member was employed by the KCMO Police Department for at least 25 years.

When a PBA member dies, his or her family may need emotional or financial support. PBA provides grief counseling on an as-needed basis and refers the family to a broad range
of vital services available in the community. Additionally, PBA gives a handsome inscribed Bible to the family of the deceased member.

FUNDING
Because there are no enrollment fees or membership dues, the Police Benefit Association must generate the funds necessary to pay for member benefits and services. Money is raised through public donations as well as through annual fundraising extravaganzas. These include the MAGIC CIRCUS, a special event for children featuring magicians and small circus acts, and the POLICE DANCE, a popular “Big Band” happening. Please be generous when our telephone solicitors contact you about these events,

FINANCIAL & RETIREMENT PLANNING SERVICES
It’s hard to support a family today, especially on a police officer’s salary. Maybe you can- handle the day-to-day expenses, but what about those inevitable major expenditures, such as buying a home or paying for college tuition. And don’t forget about retirement. The financial planner who has successfully invested PBA’s funds for more than 20 years will provide a free financial planning session to any member. This includes reviewing your current financial situation and discussing practical investment strategies that will help you prepare for retirement and achieve other long- term financial goals. MONUMENTS
The Police Benefit Association is the caretaker of the two official police monuments, which are located in front of KCMO police headquarters at 1125 Locust. Both monuments, including a 1903 bronze medallion with a life-size bust of a police officer and a 1921 bronze statue of a police officer comforting a child, were built with money from citizen-initiated fund raising campaigns.

The 1921 statue, which is engraved with the names of all the KCMO police officers killed in the line of duty, is of particular historical significance. It was designed by nationally renowned sculptor Robert Merrell Gage (1892 1981) and is considered to be one of the most outstanding police statues in the United States.

Every year, the PBA arranges for the professional cleaning of these monuments so that their quality is not diminished by time and neglect
