Charles W. Neaves
Born: June 7, 1918
On September 20, 1948, while attempting to
arrest a suspect from a previous disturbance who was again creating a problem
for his neighbors at 1334 Paseo, the suspect's brother obtained a shotgun from
inside the building and shot Officer Neaves in the stomach at point blank range,
killing him. Officer Neaves' partner, two other assisting officers, the original
suspect, and a bystander were killed in the exchange of gunfire. This incident
became widely known as the "Paseo Massacre".

Charles H. Perrine
On September 20, 1948, while attempting
to arrest a suspect at 1334 Paseo, the suspect's brother obtained a shotgun and
fired point blank at Officer Perrine's partner, killing him. Two other officers,
the original suspect, and a bystander were killed in the exchange of gunfire.
Officer Perrine was killed by a riot gun that was taken from a police vehicle by
the first suspect. This incident became widely known as the "Paseo Massacre". |

Sandy W. Washington
Born: April 8, 1921
On September 20, 1948, as Officer
Washington and his partner were attempting to arrest a suspect at 1334 Paseo,
the suspect's brother obtained a shotgun and shot Officer Washington's partner
at point blank range, killing him. As Officer Washington was trying to take
cover he was shot by the first suspect, who grabbed the gun from his brother.
The final count was four officers, one suspect, and one bystander killed in what
became known as the "Paseo Massacre".
