Ralph R. Miller
On December 27, 1941 Officer Miller was
involved in a vehicular accident while attempting to capture a speeding car, and
died of his injuries. |

Arthur J. Morris
Born: December 21, 1897
On June 13, 1942 Officer Arthur J.
Morris was investigating a man and woman accused of attempting to pass worthless
checks at a store on 14th and Main Street. When he attempted to place them in
the car for transport, the man open fired on Morris - fatally wounding him. The
two then used the police car for their getaway. Fifteen days later, the man -
Alfred George Keast - was tracked down and cornered. He committed suicide before
they could arrest him, he left a note confessing to the murder of Morris.
Officer Morris joined the police department on May 1, 1932.

Melvon L. Huff
Born: June 8, 1919
On July 4, 1945, Officer Huff was en route
to 31st and Van Brunt Blvd., to monitor Independence Day traffic, when he lost
control of his motorcycle at 47th and Benton and hit the curb. The impact threw
him over the handle bars, and into a utility pole. Officer Huff died from his
injuries at the scene of the accident.

James H. Owens
Born: January 19, 1897
The only information available regarding the
death of this officer was that he died in the line of duty on December 23,
1947.

Floyd N. Montgomery
Born: July 6, 1919
On June 28, 1948 Officers Floyd N.
Montgomery and Paul J. Warrington answered a disturbance call at 1424 Forest
Avenue shortly before 7am. Montgomery had just stepped out of his car when he
was fatally wounded, he had time to fire his own weapon only once. Warrington
responded to the gunfire, and was also wounded. He radioed for backup, and when
it arrived, they found the assailants dead inside the house - an apparent
murder-suicide.
Officer Montgomery joined the police force August 17, 1942, and left in 1944
when he went to serve in World War II in the Army. He was discharged in 1945 and
then returned to the department.
