Martin Hynes
At approximately 8:30
p.m. on December 30, 1881, Patrolman Martin Hynes went to
the White House Saloon at 10th and Grand to serve a warrant for
Clay Crenshaw, which had previously been obtained by the Crenshaw's
wife. Crenshaw, the proprieter of the White House Saloon, had been
arguing with his wife, Maggie Crenshaw, who ultimately signed a
complaint against him. Patrolman Hynes told Crenshaw he had a warrant
and to "come on". Crenshaw told Patrolman Hynes to wait
until he got his coat and hat. When Crenshaw came out, with his
coat on, pulled a gun and shot Patrolman Hynes, killing him.

Patrick Jones
On April 3, 1882
Officer Jones was advised by a local grocer in his neighborhood
of some suspicious black males in the area. As Officer Jones approached
the subjects they started running west from Officer Jones' location,
St. Louis and Hickory. Officer Jones gave Chase and was shot at
St. Louis and Liberty, were he died. It should be noted that a young
black male, suspected by some area people to be the suspect in Officer
Jones' murder, was chased down and lynched by the crowd. It was
later learned thatt they had hung the wrong man and an inquiry was
initiated to learn the truth about these circumstances.
